scrapes, japes and grape apes!

King Creosote is playing here in Dublin on Wednesday night and once again I'm going to miss him. I'm fairly snapping at having missed him two months ago but this is really rubbing salt in the wounds, kicking sand in the eyes, giving a chinese burn on the wrist etc. To try and assuage my anger I bought his latest offering on 7". It's called 'Home in a Sentence' and is an altogether very understated affair. It's still a nice song but doesn't have the necessary girth and weight to make it a great song. I'll leave it there before I turn into Eamon Dunphy! Check him out in Tripod on Wednesday night, it's only €15.

I also picked up the latest 7" by Super Furry Animals. They've made a habit of releasing all their recent 7"s on picture discs and this one is the same. It's the same type of artwork that's on the 'Hey Venus' album cover. It's called Run Away and it's what i've come to expect of these mad Welsh wizards, well constructed pop.

Although this has been knocking around for a week or two I only got around to checking it out tonight. It's the new video for 'Floating' by Jape and it coincides with another release of the tune on the 'Jape is Grape' EP that'll be out in a week or two.

Hey Matt

Bad news: King Creosote's gig is cancelled.

Good news: He's the first interviewee I have in a new series called Musical Rooms starting on the blog today.

Sinead - That's kind of good news for me. I hope he reschedules it around the time he's supporting Squeeze. I've a number of windows in my calendar around then.

Checked out the blog. Great stuff. You might want to feature me getting creative in my favourite room, the outside toilet. I'm going to lock myself in it with my Yamaha QY10.
