closed for business

What can I say? It's been a blast.

All mediocre things come to an end and this is it. What started as an experiment meant to last one year managed to string itself out for a little bit longer than that. On the way I've made virtual friends with plenty of bloggers. The one disconcerting aspect about this is that I've never met most of them. That said, I'd like to thank each and every blogger and other web people who've taken the time to visit or to link here from their own sites.

This blog was started to fill a musical void in my life. That void has now been filled once more and as such I'm going back to doing what I love best, playing tunes on internet radio to a handful of interested people.

I can't say that I always enjoyed keeping a blog. I've always believed that if you're not deriving any pleasure or benefit from work then it becomes a pointless task. It's been hard work at times, thinking about stuff to write about and then having to bloody well write it. Not that you'd think that I spent much time thinking about it by reading most of it. Whatever interest I had left for blogging has fallen by the wayside. There's a host of more interesting blogs in any case. By the same token there's a load more shit ones. In fact there's many, many more shit ones. Unfortunately most of those bloggers won't realise and they'll continue to fill the internet with their nonsense. In positive terms, special mention must go to those who have populated the blogroll on the right hand side of the page and those others who were there until they too stopped blogging. Even more special mention goes to the many blogs that I meant to put there but never found the time to do so.

The music goes on and I realise that you can't keep up with everything, even when you try. It's even harder when you're only half-arsed about it. Hopefully this departure from the world of blogging will mean that I've some energy to channel in other directions. Damn it, I might even play with my children or talk to my wife.

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye. Adieu, adieu, to you and you and you.

Ah no Matt! Thanks for some great reading over the last year or so and for all the support you've given Analogue along the way. You'll be missed.

Cheers,
Bren

ps. had my first drink in the Welcome Inn last night. I thought it was pretty quiet in there until someone started swinging the fire extinguisher around and barking the bar man.

That is very disappointing, we have few enough friends in the blogosphere as it is! But I look forward to the radio show growing in strength.
I have very fond memories of Golden Maverick shows from the end of the 90s when I spent some time in Dublin. I used make valiant efforts to listen to groove and krossie's Sunday Service but often fell back to sleep. I used finally arise to your show sometime after midday, always a welcome aural wake up call. (BTW this isn't to suggest the others put me to sleep !).
When you started blogging, I remember bringing it to Paul Tarpeys attention, who believed that you may actually be Eoin Foyle. Matt Vinyl was apparently his DJ name at one stage back in the funk off days.
I enjoyed your blog posts and the way they often painted vivid pictures of walks I was and am very fond of, myself (ie, lunchtime in all city etc).
Anyway hope the building work is going well and that you have a great Christmas and New Year.
peace from Limerick
S

Ah for Christ sake, first Christmas is over and now this. I'm gonna miss you, will be getting some static going to fill the gap. This is like losing a friend.....

Sad news. I always enjoyed wandering through. I especially liked your very thorough list a while back of olde gig spots around the town. I nearly did myself a little pilgrimage.

I go away for a while, come back and find twenty comments. It's only in death that people start talking nice about you. Now I know how Tony Gregory must feel.

Sure you are going to pull a Twenty and come back when the boredom sets in...arent you?

Matt Vinyl said...

That Twenty fecker is like Take That. He must be on his third comeback tour at this stage.

If only I had more time and original ideas I might flog this horse out of its deathlike slumber

PS. Nice one to all the bloggers, who even though I'm a few weeks dead, are still honouring my memory by leaving the blog on their blogroll. Maximum respect.

Thanks for the reminder, you'll be stripped of your residency pronto. Only messing, it'll be a lovely grotto to Matt The Vinylist.

Ah well I didnt notice till now if that makes ya feel any better C !And I def catch your radio show more often and you always manage to inform us of many things between sevens which is prob the best way of being informed about anything. The John Peel way I say. He would tell us about his walk with his dog in the countryside between Carcass and Napalm Death tunes. By the way statistically it seems a small percentage of listeners or prob blog readers for that matter contact show or leave comments etc. Bla bla .... 'ROCK ON CIARAN'
