when I grow up.....

The latest offering from UK beat poet Scroobius Pip (in conjunction with Yila) is called 'Astronaut'. It's more of the same really, I'm not sure if I'm going to keep buying stuff by this guy. The beats by Yila are pretty good, the video is pretty good, but Scroobius is not offering anything new. Dare I say it, he seems to be a bit of a one trick pony. Anyhow, judge for yourself here and don't be listening to the shite I talk.

My seven inch from The Nackers arrived the other day. It's actually a seven by The Ultra Twist vs The Nackers and has two tunes from both bands on each side. In keeping with the Irish peoples love of all things Italian - football managers, chippers and pilgrimages to Rome - It's an Italo-Irish garage punk sensation. Forza Italia - Dublin styles. They might even sell you a bit of carpet or some remoulded tyres.

I also picked up a few seven inches from All City records. Two of them are on the Keny Dope KayDee label and are edits of some old tunes. The first of them is 'Organize' by Mugo whilst the other is 'Save the Youth' by Mellow Madness. Both are pretty great. Organize is a solid funk tune with a tinge of disco. The original pressings of it on seven inch are as rare as hens teeth so it was nice to pick this repress up. I was told that I had to have a copy of Save the Youth by OB in the record shop. That was an easy sale for him. It appears that the band was put together by a high school teacher who enlisted a number of his ex-students. Included in them is the singer Mike Walker who later worked with The Fatback Band. The third tune that I bought is 'Guajira 78' by Greenwood Rhythm Coalition, on the Names you can Trust label. It's produced by Monk One and E's E and it's a bit of a Cuban style disco tune. It was released last year but its still rocking.

And finally, the eagle landed on Saturday morning, exactly one week overdue. He's small, bald and fat-faced just like most babies. We're getting on just great.
