walls come tumblin' down

What a buzz! It's fast approaching st Patricks weekend here in Dublin and over the past few days it's been 'Seachtain na Gaeilge'. This particular week or so gives Irish people a chance to practice their poor grasp of their own language. These two guys in the photo are expressing how cool it is to talk Irish and in the true spirit of things, the organisation I work for had an 'Oíche Gaeilge'. A night that gave staff the opportunity to talk Irish to one another, have a few beers and as it turns out do the 'Walls of Limerick' (a traditional Irish ceilí dance).

The last time I did this particular dance would have been about 20 years ago as a student in the Connemara Gaeltacht. These dances gave young boys an opportunity to prey upon innocent young things. The general rule was that if someone asked you to dance you had to oblige. It was real 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' stuff.

It appears that my fitness levels have dropped in the intervening period as I was hard pushed to keep myself going. By Jaysus, the gargle and the perspiration was flowing. It was mighty stuff. For those of you intersted in reliving some past céilí madness I have taken the liberty of enclosing a link for the 'Walls of Limerick'. Krumping this ain't.
